First May meeting

Attendance:  29 in person. 3 on Zoom.

Fundamentals: Kim & Kristi's abstract project results.

Business meeting:

  • Elections. Existing board voted in unanimously.
  • Judges needed for N4C.
  • Treasurer's report. Dues and donation deposited.
  • Banquet will be Sunday, July 12 at Drugan's.
  • N4C convention in North Dakota in October.
  • Private workshop September 2027 in the works.
  • Sister city photo exchange in the works.
  • N4C results.
  • Owen Johnson is selling a book. See email for details.
  • Next meeting at the International Gardens in Riverside Park at 5:30.
  • Milky Way shoot at the Krause cemetery. (See Brian's email)
  • Board meeting next Tuesday. Email Steve if you have suggestions.

Second April meeting

Attendance: 23 in person. 7 on Zoom.

Business meeting:

  • Judges needed in May for N4C.
  • Abstract photo project will be presented at the next meeting.
  • Elections will be the first meeting in May.
  • Banquet at Drugans. Currently on Sunday, July 12.
  • Last meeting is TBD as the greenhouse has closed.

Fundamentals: Guest speaker Dave Johnson presented Photographic Image Formula

Main program: Brian presented a photographic journey down the Danube

  • If anyone has Year End plaques to recycle, bring them to Kristi or Tom or bring to Sue/church with prints.
  • Abstract photo contest - Images due April 20th.
  • La Crosse Marathon looking for photographers.
  • Next meeting: Presentation from National Camera.
  • Elections coming up in May. If anyone wants to run or nominate someone, let a board member know.

First March meeting

Fundamentals: Presentation from Cathy Richardson from her recent Workshop with Photo Artistry. 

Business meeting:

  • New member / visitor introductions.
  • Fundamentals with Mark Devine will be rescheduled for next year.
  • Thanks to Joni for her presentation at Pizza Ranch.
  • Judges needed!
  • Treasurer report: Paid speaker.
  • If you have year end plaques to recycle, bring them in.
  • One more judge needed for March N4C. Needed by March 15th. Let Cyndy know. Also need judges for May.
  • Abstract photo project. Due April 20th.
  • Thanks to Mary Ann for submitting our photos to N4C. Winners will be on the site soon.
  • Next competition contains the Park and Rec subcategory. Steve will send out a list of qualifying events.
  • Upcoming workshops: Photoshop March 17th. Fundamentals will be rescheduled.
  • Spring Break coming up in a month. More info to follow.

  • Kathy is set up with cards for sale as a fundraiser for New Horizons.
  • Judges needed. B in April and A in May.
  • Treasurer's report: No change since last meeting.
  • Plaques can be recycled.
  • Abstract photo challenge due in April.
  • N4C results mentioned and posted by the treats.
  • Polar Plunge March 7th. Figure skating March 6th & 7th.
  • March workshops: Photoshop parts 1 & 2. March 3rd & March 17th. Fundamentals March 4th.
  • Next meeting is the pizza party at Pizza ranch. 6-8PM.

Fundamentals:  "What makes a good photo?" --  group activity on critiquing photos.

Business Meeting:

  • Discussed the Abstract Photo project. PDF available in the Resources section.
  • Judges needed.
  • Treasurer report: Dues deposited.
  • Thursday meetups continue.
  • New mentor: Grant O. specializing in macro, Lightroom, and PS.
  • Kathy will have cards for sale at the next meeting with proceeds benefitting New Horizons.
  • Discussed N4C contests. Results are available by the treats.
  • PSA magazines available.
  • February competition images due Feb 1st.
  • Club owned mat cutter available to borrow. Contact Steve if interested.

Results of the 10 of 1 project. 10 people submitted.

Next project is up to 10 images in Abstract photography due in April 20th. Will be shown in the May 12 meeting.

  • Judges needed.

  • We've been a member of PSA for 75 years. They have an image analysis Zoom workshop that members can attend. More details coming in email. PSA magazines available.

First October Meeting

Attendance:

  • 30 in person. 6 on Zoom.

Fundamentals:

  • Close up / macro photography video by Jerry plus followup discussion. Also added on the video on birefringence due to questions.

Business Meeting:

  • New member introductions.
  • Passed around judge signup sheet.
  • Steve shared info about John's visitation and funeral, and Zoerb prairie.
  • The board approved spending up to $100 to buy flowers for John's memorial.
  • Club members shared memories of John while we played a slideshow of his competition entries.
  • Treats schedule has been filled.
  • New documents section under Resources on the website.
  • Meetups will have one more at 5:30 and then switch to lunch meetups after that until it's light again in the evening.
  • Competition entries due Nov 2nd. Categories include a challenge in People.
  • If you haven't paid your dues, do so.
  • Pettitbone Haunted Mile is the next Park & Rec event followed by the Erickson Bowl.
  • Fundamental workshops starting October 25th.

  • N4C results from last May on the table.
  • Pay your dues if you haven't already. Must be a paid member to enter competition.
  • Oktoberfest photo ops this weekend.
  • KVR Dam Challenge photographers needed.
  • Photographers needed for Park & Rec events. This gets us our meeting room for free.
  • Cover photo needed for the Park & Rec guide.
  • Thanks to Kristi for the treats and Grant for the peppers.
  • Fundamentals workshops will continue this year if there's interest. Will be restructured to be more hands on. Will likely start at the end of October. Contact Steve if interested.
  • Setting goals for the year. One is to have a group outing. Another is to add some different things to meetings such as challenges and more photo outings. Ideas welcome.

  • Welcome to visitors and new members. Steve's sister LaVaughn Hengst is visiting from Germany.
  • Thanks to Brian for all his work as president and helping Steve get going as the new president.
  • Dues can be paid to Donna during the meeting or mailed see How to Join / Renew for address.
  • Steve went over the plan for today's meeting.

  • Sue went over the competition schedule, what the categories mean.
  • Michelle gave a tour of the website.
  • Brian discussed N4C.
  • LaVaughn Hengst shared a video of her underwater photography followed by a Q&A.
  • Kim went over the photo challenges: First is "10 of 1" due by Dec 29th.
  • Steve will send out an email about upcoming photo shoots.

  • Milky Way shoot May 23rd starting at 10:30 in Brownsville.
  • Year End Banquet. Trying to book Drugan's but having communications issues.
  • Need to drop off prints for Year End. Bring to the Greenhouse or drop off at the church. Watch email for more info.
